How I Optimised My Zinc Levels Without Taking Zinc Supplements + No More White Spots on Nails!

I took high doses of zinc supplements for a year but my zinc levels didn’t budge. I had no idea what else i could do! And then I stumbled upon research connecting zinc and copper, which finally solved my health riddle. Zinc tally test now shows that my zinc levels are optimal, there are no white spots on my nails, and I don’t suffer from hangnails anymore. This information changed my life!

I got my extra copper either from liquid chlorophyll (contains 4mg of copper) or from a chelated copper supplement (3mg). I feel that chelated copper has better absorption because even though there is less copper, I got more results from it.

Here’s a blog post about how you can test your zinc levels at home.

And here’s a video where I talk about improving absorption of minerals rather than blind supplementation.

Hope you find this helpful! Of course, remember that I’m not a doctor and this is not medical advice. I’m just sharing what worked for me but it’s important for you to do your own research before making informed decisions.

  1. Hi Vita,
Very interesting copper story, thanks for sharing.
I’m curious if you had estimated the copper level in your diet before supplementing and if so what range was it in? I mean from diet calculators or some similar tool.

    • Yes, the levels of copper in my diet were good, but I believe my low copper issues started after the Paleo diet (which is high in zinc due to all the meat) and after taking a high dose zinc supplement for a while. I seem to be doing OK now without extra copper, so hopefully the imbalance between zinc and copper is fixed now. <3
