Things I Loved in May 2017

Time to share with you all of my May favorites! And I’ve got quite a few things to share, so let’s get started.

It took me a while to type them all up after filming the video, so bear with me as I’m slowly getting into the habit to keep my blog updated. Somehow YouTube is always so much easier than the blog. 🙂

Morningstar Minerals Derma Boost Rejuvenating Spray Mist

The first thing I’d like to share with you is the Morningstar Minerals Derma Boost rejuvenating spray mist. It contains vitamins, minerals, and proteins. You can use it for your skin or hair – I use it sort of like a natural skin toner instead of the rosewater that I used to use in the past (I still love it to bits, but I love this one just as much). The spray mist doesn’t have any kind of fragrance, which is a huge plus for me.

What attracted me to it was the fact that it contains fulvic minerals – they are trace minerals that are quite difficult to get from food or from supplements, so getting them straight on the skin is amazing. Derma Boost mist softens my skin, helps it retain moisture better, and it’s a great pick me up in the morning, after sun exposure, or if it’s a really hot day and I really crave something refreshing on my skin.

I think it’s a great product (also very affordable) and I enjoy spraying it on my face every day.

Real Techniques Finishing Brush

The next thing is Real Techniques setting brush. I’ve been looking for something like this for quite a while because I have slightly oily skin and it’s really hot outside pretty much all year long. So if I wear mascara, it rubs off on my brow bone and leaves these ugly black mascara marks all over. Honestly, I have to check myself in the mirror every hour and clean it off. It’s such a nightmare that most of the time I just skip mascara at all – it’s just not worth the hassle! But with this little setting brush, I can apply mineral finishing powder to targeted areas and I don’t experience smudging anymore.

I love how small the brush is! I can apply it right under the eyes to set my concealer or on my brow bone to prevent smudging. I also apply it on any areas where I get oily, but not all over my face, which means that my face still retains that natural glow and 3D look. There is nothing worse than a flat, fully powdered face, especially if you aren’t in your twenties anymore.

Alba Botanica Strong Hold Style Gel

The next thing I’d like to share with you is the Alba Botanica strong hold style gel. I got it quite a while ago, but I never really started using it in my haircare routine regularly. Recently, I’ve started using it consistently and it’s probably my favorite styling gel of all times. It doesn’t have any fragrance, which is a huge plus for me. It’s based on copolymer, which works really well with my type of curls. It’s a little crunchy while the hair is still wet, but once it’s dry, no crunch remains. I really don’t like products that you can feel in your hair when you touch it – this one isn’t like that at all.

The styling effect stays really well for a few days. All I need to do the next day is just spray some water on my hair in the morning, scrunch it up, and as the styling gel is still there, my curls get defined, very curly, and healthy looking.

Raw Organic Red Maca Powder

The next thing is more of my husband’s favorite rather than mine, and it’s the Earth Circle raw organic red maca powder. It seems to be such a fantastic product for anybody, both men and women. But I haven’t tried it myself yet, so I can’t vouch for it myself as a woman. However, for my husband, it has done wonders.

Since he started using red maca, he’s been much more smiley, much happier, much more focused, and he’s been losing fat from his belly little by little. Maca is also great for men who are aging, perhaps losing their testosterone as often happens naturally with age, especially if somebody is stressed. It will help to naturally raise that testosterone level and get that happiness and energy back in your life.

Honestly, I can’t wait to try maca myself, but I’m not going to do it for now because I’m trying too many different things already, so I don’t really have space for this one in my routine at the moment. But I will try it in the future and I’ll let you know what I think of it as a woman.

My husband loves it though, and I love the way he acts and looks with red maca in his life.

“The Icarus Deception”

Next, I would like to share with you a really awesome book – “The Icarus Deception” by Seth Godin. I read another one of his books a while ago (“Tribes”), so this is my second one and so far it’s my favorite. I love it so much!

The book is basically about being an artist in today’s world. You might be wondering why I’m talking about artists if I’m not an artist. But the truth is that anybody can be called an artist if they put their whole heart into what they are doing and if they make a difference to the world, to the society, people around them. Also anyone who isn’t scared to be themselves and to be really vulnerable while sharing their gift with the world. Which means that nowadays we all could be artists if we were brave enough to actually do something openly and without being stopped by the fear of what other people might think of our art.

Today’s society is based on connection rather than manufacturing or factories, thanks to social media and the internet. Being vulnerable and open, and being an artist is more important today than ever. If you have a blog or YouTube channel, you will find this book especially relevant to you, but really, regardless of what you do in your life, I think you will benefit from “The Icarus Deception”.

The book is called Icarus Deception because of the Greek myth about Icarus, where he escaped from captivity on a remote island with wings made of wax that his dad made for him. His dad warned him not to fly too close to the sun because his wings would melt, but he didn’t listen. He flew really high, the wings melted, Icarus fell into the ocean and died.

But people fail to mention the other side of the story that his dad also warned him not to fly too close to the ocean either because the waters were going to just swallow him in.

I love the hidden wisdom behind it.  We shouldn’t fly too high or think that we’re gods, that we’re above everybody else. But at the same time, we shouldn’t undervalue ourselves. Our aim should be to find that happy balance somewhere in between.

I really enjoyed the book. It gave me a lot of food for thought and I would highly recommend it.

My Patio Herb Garden

My last favorite is my herb garden. Honestly, making food using my own herbs from the garden is priceless. Homegrown herbs taste so much stronger and nicer, and I save lots of money not having to buy herbs from the farmer’s market. I think everybody should try to grow herbs in their balconies or window sills, even if they don’t have a bigger patio.

Not only you get wonderful herbs for cooking, but you also get so relaxed while looking after the garden. There’s nothing better than gardening, so if you haven’t started your own little garden yet, I would highly recommend that you do because it’s such a nice process.

You can watch me planting my herb garden a couple of months ago here.

And here’s a video of me talking about my May favorites:
