DIY Zinc Test – Test Your Zinc Levels At Home – How To Tell If Your Zinc Is Low

Zinc is one of the most important minerals for human bodies, and possibly the most important one if you have acne. Vegetarian or vegan diets, lots of stress, exercising or sweating a lot, and taking birth control pills are just a few of the reasons why you could be running low on zinc. If you struggle with your skin or have depression, it’s almost certain that your zinc is low. Luckily, it’s so easy and inexpensive to test your zinc levels at home. Here’s how to do it!

I’ve been supplementing zinc for almost a year now and it’s still deficient, so I can’t stress enough how important it is to check your levels. Don’t think that if you eat well your zinc is going to be high. Even if you eat lots of animal products, you might still not be absorbing enough zinc or you might be losing it due to something like Pyroluria.

All you need for the DIY zinc test is some zinc sulphate crystals (which you can get on eBay for a few dollars) and some distilled water, so each test will literally cost you pennies.

    • Hi Joy, I take zinc picolinate from Now Foods. Another form I love is OptiZinc, also from Now Foods. However, you need to be careful not to lower your copper too much with zinc. They work together as a team and also if your copper is already low, it will be impossible to raise zinc levels. They need each other for successful absorption. Without knowing this, believing that I had copper overload, I was taking zinc alone and my levels of zinc didn’t budge, plus I caused myself a copper deficiency. So my biggest tip is make sure you balance zinc and copper at the same time. Only 20% of people are getting enough copper in their diet (I’ll make a video about the copper controversy soon, it’s shocking). Chlorophyll is the greatest natural source of copper and has so many benefits that it’s the number one supplement I’d recommend to anyone. Since I started taking chlorophyll as soon as I wake up and zinc before bed, my health has improved in leaps and bounds. Hope you and your sweet family are doing great! <3 xx
