April Favorites 2017 – Most Effective Natural Deodorant, Lip Tint, Personal Finance, and More

While editing the video about my April favorites, I realised that all of the things I mentioned were changing my life, hahaha! But they truly are! Thank you for allowing me to share my excitement with you!

I’ve decided to start spending a little bit more time on the blog because the poor thing is feeling a bit neglected. With the limited amount of energy that I had in the past, I instinctively felt that I couldn’t really do both and that if I wanted to do anything well, I had to pick one, so I picked YouTube and stuck with it. But now that I’m feeling so much better and so much more energetic, I’m going to post things here on the blog, too. The fact is that not everyone enjoys watching video content. Some people simply prefer reading. And I might want to post something else that isn’t going to be on YouTube, so I’m definitely going to be spending a bit more time here from now on.

One more reason why I want to start writing a bit more is that I really want to start writing my first book (I feel ready, it’s time), but I’m totally out of shape when it comes to writing, so I’m hoping that if I make a regular habit out of it, it will get easier and I’ll get better at it. Fingers crossed!

Coming back to my favorites of the month, these are the things and people I enjoyed so much in April:

  • Schmidt’s Rose & Vanilla deodorant –  I dabbled with DIY deodorants in the past and they worked pretty well, but they were leaving stains in the underarms, especially on dark and white clothing, so I was never 100% happy. I also tried a lot of different natural store-bought alternatives, but none of them worked for more than a few more hours, and definitely none of them could withstand stress or physical exercise. This Schmidt’s deodorant withstands everything: even after 24 hours including sleeping and exercising, I smell as fresh as a rose (literally, because it smells of rose and vanilla – my two favorite scents on earth). This is hands down the best deodorant I’ve ever tried. It’s even more effective than the heavy-duty chemical deodorants I used to use in my corporate days.
  • Crystal Foot Deodorant Spray – sorry for the TMI but we live in a very hot climate and my husband has a problem with foot odour, especially when he wears socks and trainers. My mom told me a while ago that she started using a foot deodorant spray for my dad’s feet and shoes, and the issue of bad odour completely disappeared. The thing is I wasn’t interested in buying a chemical-laden product, so at that time I just let this idea go. But recently I found this completely natural product on iHerb and decided to give it a try. It works, people! I don’t have to deal with nasty smelling feet or socks anymore. 🙂  I’m a very happy wife.
  • Mineral Fusion Sheer Moisture Lip Tint in Flicker – in one of my previous videos, one of my lovely viewers told me about these lip tints and said I would love them in the colour Flicker and another one that I can’t remember. I recently needed to add something that is a Shipping Saver to my order at iHerb to get free shipping and I decided to add this lip tint in my shopping basket. It’s amazing! The most beautiful colour with wonderful pigmentation that is still sheer enough but with lots of pop of colour. It also moisturisers my lips like the best lip balm. I’ve been reaching out for it whenever filming videos these days. It’s possibly my favorite lip product of all times. And it’s so affordable!
  • “The Financial Peace Planner” by Dave Ramsey – I read another book of his (I think it was Total Money Makeover) a couple of years ago and I tried to budget and track expenses but it just didn’t stick. I was using an Excel sheet for my budget and expense tracking at the time, and it just wasn’t good enough. I couldn’t save up for bi-annual or annual expenses on the sheet, which was driving me crazy, and there were a few other problems with it, but let’s just say I stopped doing it after a couple of months. This time, I read a different book that resonated so much more with me. I sat down and made a list of all of our regular expenses, so that now the budget includes everything from my subscription to PicMonkey or Workout Trainer App to car insurance that we pay once a year. Its now perfect! It was all so easy because of using Dave’s own personal finance app called Every Dollar (it’s totally free). It’s both for budgeting and tracking your expenses, and what I love so much is that I can turn any item into a savings fund, so, for example, I’ve started a fund for traveling, for buying a new camera, or even for paying our car insurance once a year. Perfection! I finally feel in control of our money. Sadly, the app is only available for US customers but I managed to get it anyway by entering a friend’s US address. The thing is using it sneakily like that means that I can’t connect it to my bank to automate the expenses (obviously, because my bank isn’t in the US), but I don’t mind entering everything manually. Especially because we tend to use a lot of cash rather than cards anyway.
  • “The One Thing” by Gary Keller – this is a book that has given me lots of food for thought. There is something called Pareto’s Law which says that 80% of efforts bring only 20% of results and 20% of efforts bring us 80% of results. You can change that to products and profit or whatever else is relevant to your life situation. The fact is that we waste so much time doing things that everybody else does, that we’re told we’re supposed to do, or that we do out of habit without really questioning them, when in reality they don’t bring us much benefit, and even worse – they detract us from the things that can rally make a difference. Being “busy” doesn’t make us any more successful or “cool”. It only tires us. “The One Thing” is all about looking at your life and work, analysing it, and working out which of the things you do are really worth investing time in. Using this strategy, you can achieve more and get more done with less effort and with lots more time left for playtime and quality of life. I highly recommend this book if you’re interesting in improving your life and improving results (and quality) in whatever you do.
  • “Middle Eastern Cookery” by Arto der Haroutunian – I got this book second-hand from Amazon and I’ve been experimenting a lot more in the kitchen ever since. I’ve always been intrigued by the Middle Eastern cuisines and this book is perfect for learning more about them. I love how simple all the recipes and ingredients are. The only drawback is that there are no pictures in the book, but it’s also an advantage because it means the book includes much more recipes than a usual cookbook. I love it! It’s definitely one of my favorite cookbooks at the moment.
  • Violette_fr channel on YouTube: her makeup tutorials are like nothing I’ve ever seen. She’s a French professional make-up artist who is mostly based in New York. She almost never uses foundation and her makeup is so effortless, minimalist, yet sensual and French chic. She films most of her makeup tutorials in bars, restaurants, and bakeries in New York rather than at home, which makes her videos so unique.  Plus, she’s stunningly beautiful with an amazing fashion style. I urge you to check her out!
  • Estee Lalonde channel – I started watching Estee’s channel a few years ago when she was just starting out, so it’s not something new to me. But lately her vlogs have been amazing. They’re so homey, cosy, warm, and real. She and her boyfriend Aslan are both hilarious. Their dog Reggie reminds me of my Giulietta (Reggie is a greyhound and Giulietta is an Ibizan hound). I think you’re going to love her vlogs. By the way, check out her Japanese stationery haul video. The most hilarious video ever! They’re so cute together!

Here’s a video version of my April favorites if you prefer video format:

Thank you so much for watching/reading! What did you love in April?

  1. As much as I love the idea of natural deodorant, none of them actually make a difference for me. Especially during the summer months, my sweat is out of control. I’ve always had issues with over-sweating my entire life. A few months ago I read an article about different deodorants and junglejuice was listed on there. I was hesitant to stray away from the norm but I knew I needed a deodorant with an extra kick to it. I’ll tell you this stuff is amazing. It stays on even after my outdoor workouts in the summer heat! Now I can work all day and then run to happy hour with the girls without feeling self-conscious the entire time. It’s worth a look into for sure: https://www.junglemannaturals.com
